How Lead Affects The Body

Blood -

inhibits enzymes needed for hemoglobin synthesis. = Fatigue.

Bones -

lead is deposited into bone vs calcium.= Osteoporosis

Brain -

Lead inhibits copper-dependent enzymes for the neurotransmitters (dopamine, epinephrine, norepinephrine). = Hyperactivity.  High Pb levels may cause irreversible injury to the central nervous system.

Energy -

inhibits enzymes in the Krebs / Energy cycle. = Fatigue.

Kidneys -

Raises uric acid levels / impair kidney function. = Gout.

Minerals -

Displaces calcium, zinc, manganese, copper, and iron.

Thyroid Gland -

Interferes with iodine uptake to the thyroid.

How Mercury Affects The Body

Nervous System -

Degeneration of peripheral nerve fibers. Sensory and motor nerve damage.

Pain in limbs, weakness, falling, slurred speech, tremor, headaches and rash.
