Supporting the Clearance of Heavy Metals

I got my Hair Mineral Analysis results, and I have heavy metals to clear. What is the process for clearance support?

The most important part of heavy metal treatment is to remove yourself from as much exposure to heavy metals as you can identify. If mercury is elevated, it is important to get all amalgam fillings replaced with composite fillings and reduce consumption of warm water fish. Also, if you have any other type of ongoing exposure, for example lead pipes or a bad water supply, it is important to do what needs to be done to stop your exposure.

After that initial stage, there are two other stages which we can support with key nutritional supplements. First we need to dislodge the heavy metals from the tissues.

  1. Intestinal Metal Detox (IMD), a patented large silica molecule with 200 attached sulfhydryl molecules, forms electrostatic bonds with metals primarily in the upper intestine. As it moves along the gastrointestinal tract binding metals, especially mercury and excepting iron, it allows proper signaling to the liver so the liver can continue its necessary detoxification pathways and subsequently dump metals into the GI tract for elimination.

Once dislodged from the tissues these toxins tend to just circulate around in the blood and become re-deposited in some other part of the body. For example you may take a dose of selenium and dislodge some mercury molecules which get as far as the liver and kidneys, get stuck, and poison these organs. Or your next dose of selenium dislodges the same molecules of mercury from your liver back into the bloodstream whereupon they travel to the kidneys and become deposited there. A subsequent dose of selenium dislodges the same mercury from the kidneys back into your blood and sends it back to the brain where it becomes re-deposited. There are two supplements which can help to prevent the re-depositing of metals in the tissues.

  1. ChelaCo (a product from Standard Process), is comprised of three herbs: hawthorn, milk thistle, and garlic. It removes lead, iron, nickel, cadmium, and antimony well and mercury to some degree. It is particularly useful to help increase blood flow.

  1. ALAMax (a product from Xymogen), is a long lasting formulation of lipoic acid. Lipoic acid is a mild but effective chelating agent.

Here is a list of the other products that I recommend using, to help mop up toxins for excretion, lessen digestive burden, and remineralize throughout the process:

  • Diatomaceous Earth: ½ - 1 Teaspoon in smoothie
  • Daily Protein Shakes: Xyomogen or Standard process
  • Calcium
  • Iodine
  • Selenium
  • Zinc

Foods to Use: Onions, Garlic

These supplements are available for purchase through Dr. Craig's office. For these, and other personalized supplement recommendations please make an appointment to review your Hair Mineral Analysis results with Dr. Craig.
