3. Development of thick cords beneath the skin

Over time, nodules in the palm can spread into fingers, creating thick rope-like cords composed of fibrous tissue beneath the skin that eventually contract and limit range of motion in fingers. Dupuytren’s disease is marked by these cords; their presence marks it.

4. Gradual curling of the fingers

One of the more noticeable symptoms of Dupuytren’s disease is gradual curling or flexion of fingers towards the palm. This happens as fibrous cords tighten and contract over months or years, drawing fingers inward. This condition is commonly known as “Dupuytren’s contracture.”

5. Impaired hand function and grip strength

Dupuytren’s disease can significantly limit hand function and grip strength over time, as curled fingers become tightened tissue contracts further, making everyday tasks such as gripping objects, writing letters or shaking hands increasingly challenging.
